Brendan Greene - My Club & I

1. Can you remember the first time you went down to play with the club?

Yes, just about. I remember going down to play football in the club at under 12 level. Alo Corcoran, James Brennan and Shiela Cushen were over us. A lot of lads on the team today started playing that time. Back then it was hard to get enough together for a team. Numbers have improved a lot since then at juvenile level. They won an under 12 hurling final this week. It's great to see.

2. Tell us a bit about the area...

Ratheniska is a great place to grow up. Like most rural villages there is a church, community hall, school and GAA club all together.

There is a great community spirit. Everyone helps one another out and the GAA club brings everyone together.

3. What are the facilities like at the club?

The facilities are top class. We have without doubt one of the best committees in the county. Serious work goes on behind the scenes to provide the players with a top class pitch, dressing rooms and gear. We are all very proud of our club.

4. Can you remember your first-ever game for the senior team?

Yes I remember coming on as a sub in 2007 against Graigcullen in the intermediate championship. Brendan Delaney was over the team and we had won Leinster at junior level the year before. I was 17 at the time and I felt the pressure a small bit but was delighted to get on.

5. Did you enjoy much success in the underage grades?

We won an u16 hurling championship. And a minor championship with the Heath. We were joined with the Heath at under 21 and lost two county finals and a semi final in the three years I was involved. It was heartbreaking at the time.

6. Who did you look up to in the club when you were younger?

Brilo Brennan and my uncle Liam Greene. I remember being brought to there games when I was small. Good times.
