A Club such as ours is not just about what we do on the field, it is about a community and being the focal point in that community. Sport is a fantastic outlet for us all, and winning is our goal, but it is not the be all and end all, and never will be. We are here to help our community in whatever way we can and we encourage those who are in trouble, to reach out to us and let us help. We want to listen to you. We want to help you. We CAN help you.
Depression is an issue which has touched so many of us. Sometime a person can feel like there is nowhere to turn to, and that there is no way out. There are times when we all feel alone, afraid and unsure of what to do next. You probably don’t want to tell anyone that you are feeling suicidal because you’re worried they might be shocked or they might not understand.
But think of it this way: if you had a broken leg, you wouldn’t think twice about telling someone. You would expect them to get you the help you need. By telling a family member or friend in the Club how you feel and asking them to get help, you are allowing them to help you. Wouldn’t you do the same for someone else if it were the other way around?
Organisations like
Pieta House are doing fantastic work in helping those who find themselves in trouble. If you find it difficult to talk face to face, then send an email, a text message or a note. What’s important is that you share your feelings with someone.
